Deck Logs and Naval Records
Naval deck logs are official daily records maintained by ships of the United States Navy. These records document a vessel’s operations, movements, and activities, including navigation entries that record the ship’s position and operational status.
For veterans who served aboard naval vessels during the Vietnam War and other periods of military service, deck logs can provide important historical documentation related to where ships operated during specific timeframes.
These records are preserved by the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration and serve as official historical documentation of naval operations.
